The quality of music offered during the five nights of the last edition of the Festival, convinced the organizers of its importance for Albanian culture and for the entire Balkan scene. The music of TIRANA JAZZ FESTIVAL will represent a continuous play between our collective memory and its reinterpretations.

Main event Hans - Joachim Roedelius & Clementine Gasser & Tim Story

Joachim Roedelius

Hans - Joachim Roedelius - German electronic music legend Hans-Joachim Roedelius, with a discography of more than 80 releases, has been active in music for over thirty years. He is a pioneer in electronic music. He has founded several groups, most notably Kluster/Cluster and Harmonia. Over his prolific career, Roedelius’s musical output has covered a great deal of sonic territory and emotional range: from deeply introspective to rhythmically dancey, from experimental improvisations to heart felt vignettes, Roedelius is a musician of depth and breadth. His influence on the genre of electronic music will be felt for many years.

Clementine Gasser

She calls her music “subversive classical avant-garde”. Gasser’s music is subversive on the surface, loud and unrestrained, but only on the surface. She has the feeling, she has the necessary technique and she handles her cello superbly. Clementine Gasser is so convincing because of her powerful and distinctive style, untrammeled by modernisms, the dramatic arc, the inner logic of the musical structure, her precise craftsmanship and excellent presentation. She breathes vibrant life into her cello, a liveliness that serves as an inspiration for surprising improvisation techniques. Asynchronous tempo changes alternate with finely felt harmonic fields that spread a rare sensual magic.

Tim Story

(Philadelphia, USA, 1957), pianist, and composer. In addition to eight solo albums and dozens of compilation, Story’s work has appeared on numerous television and film soundtracks, including the original score for the popular NPR documentary “In search of Angels” (1994) and “Caravan” (2005), a feauture-length documentary from the production company of acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Avmodovar. Story’s music was nominated for a Grammy award (for 1988’s “Legend of Sleappy Hollow”, a children’s recording, with Glenn Close), and a NAIRD “Best Album”award for Beguiled”. Tim’s music has consistently landed on critics’ annual “Top Ten”, and his 3 most recent solo releases were called “one of the finest trilogies in contemporary instrumental music.” (Wind and Wire, USA).
